About this program
Provided by networkWhisky, Spirits, Glasses and Gourmet Delicacies - all in one shop: whiskyworld.de We have been offering Whisky and Whiskey since 1998! Although our range today covers much more than just whisky, it remains our defining product - and you can find over 800 different varieties with us. To help you keep your bearings, here is a quick "quick start" into the world of whisky. History of Whisky WHISKY - Once known as the "water of life," this alcoholic beverage is now considered worldwide as one of the most complex alcoholic specialties. Whisky serves two completely opposite images: on the one hand as a widely consumed national drink, on the other as a stylish indulgence that occasionally delights the palate with its diverse flavors as a noble drop. Who invented whisky - Scots or Irish - has not yet been definitively clarified. It is certain that Christian monks came to Celtic lands in the 5. century and brought with them the art of distillation. The clear distillate was referred to for many years as "aqua vitae" (water of life) and served medical purposes. Origin The Celtic term for whisky was "uisghe beatha." And because the English struggled with the Gaelic pronunciation, "uisghe" gradually became the term whisky. In recent years, whisky has gained even more popularity. Scotland is considered globally as the stronghold of whisky production with an enormous selection of Blended Malt Scotch and Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Malt Whisky consists of 100,00% malted barley (Malt English for malt) and is considered particularly stylish. The flavor palette of the various whisky regions ranges from light fruity nuances to strongly peaty and smoky characteristics. Compared to whisky from Scotland, Irish whiskey is famous for its slightly oily and gentle body. Whisky vs. Whiskey Irish whiskey differs only insignificantly in the manufacturing process from Scottish whisky and in the differentiated spelling with an "e". In the USA, Scottish whisky experienced a real boom since immigrants from Scotland and Ireland migrated there in the 18. century. However, the beginning of whisky production was problematic, as barley (the main ingredient of whisky) was difficult to grow. In search of a suitable alternative, attention fell on rye and corn, which still make up the main portion of American whiskeys today. Enthusiasts receive a variety of Bourbon Whiskey (Jim Beam, Wild Turkey), Tennessee Whiskey (Jack Daniels), Rye Whiskey (Rittenhouse) and Corn Whiskeys. The diversity of whisky distilling art has spread across the globe over the years – the most well-known whiskies are: Canadian Whisky (Canadian Club) and Japanese Whisky (with 5 distilleries including Yamazaki and Nikka). Whisky is also produced in Europe, South Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
