How to check promotion policies before running traffic
Check promotion methods by programme, market and condition. Unknown means AffDir has not confirmed the term; it does not establish permission or prohibition.
Separate brand and generic search terms
Exact brand names, modifiers, misspellings and generic keywords may have different restrictions. Match the rule to the planned method. A search-advertising flag does not establish unrestricted brand bidding.
Deeplinking is not advertising permission
Deeplinking generally concerns generating links to specific merchant pages. Direct advertising links concern whether an advertisement may point directly to the merchant. Technical compatibility does not replace promotion permission.
Read the full conditions
Conditional permissions may require written approval, negative keywords, branding rules or market and device restrictions. When sources conflict, keep the conflict visible and confirm the current effective rule with the network.
Distinguish API references from checked terms
A programme may show network API traffic references alongside checked policies. Each has its own scope and date. Account references are not guarantees for every publisher. Read login-only terms in the network; a platform homepage is not anonymous proof of those terms.
Handle missing or outdated information
Check whether the source omitted information, requires login, awaits refresh or conflicts with another source. Describe the planned keywords, markets and traffic method when asking the network. Report incorrect AffDir data through the programme feedback form.
Checklist
- Does each planned method match a specific rule?
- Are approvals, market restrictions and dates clear?
- Have unknown or conflicting terms been confirmed with the network?
